How to create a vintage bathroom

When it comes to furniture and design, there are many who tend to prefer the vintage style, a trend which is very much appreciated and always in vogue. This trend is perhaps a reaction to the current housing context, characterized by the presence of hyper-technological gadgets, sharp edges and dull colours. If this is what modern times claim, then it is worth diving into the past, modelling the home environment with warm colours, simple accessories and furniture with a classic and traditional taste, bathroom included.

Decorating a vintage style bathroom: the tub

If the space and conditions of your bathroom allow it, you could start restyling by getting a claw foot bathtub. This accessory in pure country style is inevitable if you want to give a classic touch to the environment. Do you remember old western movies, where the cowboy indulged in a good regenerating bath after a gallop in the desert? With this type of tub, you can relive those moments, especially if the rest of the furniture is equally in vintage style: wooden floor, a large mirror with a white and sinuous frame, Victorian-style curtains, an essential chair and you've got it! Even better if the tub has simple but elegant details and faucets with rounded shapes. The classic simplicity of this element will make your bathroom welcoming and aesthetically enviable.

The choice of a classic sink

A further element that adds elegance to a pure vintage style bathroom is the retro sink without a pedestal, an excellent alternative to modern sinks, perhaps more practical but often impersonal. If combined with a faucet with a classic brass finish, this choice will surely allow you to impress all your guests. In order to achieve a symmetrical and old-style look, you may also place two sinks, side by side. Again, you can find inspiration by browsing through catalogues with Victorian-style elements that will inspire you in the search for your favourite sink. The towel racks and the furniture near the sink will have to be consistent with the vintage style adopted. As for the towel racks, if you focus on simplicity, you will be on the safe side. The furniture could boast wooden drawers, with simple objects on it that can give added value to the bathroom: soap-holders, vases, small mirrors, talcum powder holders and, why not, also frames or a vintage radio.  To complete the work, a final touch consists in providing the toilet with a walnut seat cover. The warm colour of this wood will give an even more vintage atmosphere to your bathroom, especially if you can match the other furniture and accessories to this shade of brown. Finally, you can add radiators to the walls, strictly in classic style, in chrome, gold or bronze.
